Better Than Resolutions

If you set resolutions at New Year then get halfway through January and give up, then you’re not alone. 80% of resolutions fail by the end of January.

The reason it’s so difficult to change a habit is that the longer you’ve done something, the more ingrained it becomes. Doing the same thing, again and again, creates a stronger neural pathway in your brain.

If you think of your brain like a grassy field, then neural pathways are like a track in the field. The more you walk the track the deeper the track gets. When you’ve been doing a habit for years then the track becomes a solid road.

The reason it’s hard to shift an old habit and to create a new habit is it’s easier for your brain to take a well-worn path, rather than make a new one.

The brain automatically wants to take the easy option. The solid road is easier to walk.

How do you ditch old habits and start new ones to improve your fertility?

Better than setting a resolution, instead create a vision. Vision your ideal relationships, career, health, fertility, pregnancy and birth.

When you create a vision of how you want your life to be then you can set intentions powerfully and gently. Allow yourself to move in the direction of your vision, instead of setting yourself up to fail with an unrealistic resolution.

Here’s how to vision and create the life you want:

  1. Do something physical to get your body energised and your mind clear. It could be going for a walk, doing some yoga or dancing.

  2. Sit down, close your eyes and imagine the end result. Imagine how you want each area of your life to look a year from now. Imagine your relationships, career, health, fertility, pregnancy and motherhood.

  3. When you have your vision, this is the end result. Now work backwards and figure out the steps you need to take to make your vision a reality. What resources will you need? How much time will it take? What is realistic? How can you set yourself up for success?

  4. Next, look at each step and put something in place to make it inevitable that you will do it. Get accountability, get support and set it up in the right way.

  5. Take action, implement each step and reward yourself along the way to stay motivated. Taking small consistent steps will help you to achieve your vision.

Get focused, take action and be kind to yourself. Don’t make unrealistic resolutions that set you up for failure. Instead, create a well-planned vision so that you keep moving in the right direction. Small consistent steps will help you to reach your big goal.

Make this the year that your dream of having a baby comes true.

My team and I help couples around the world to optimise their fertility and get pregnant.

We get to the root cause of fertility challenges and support couples to have healthy babies, even when doctors have told them they have a 0% chance.

We empower women to get clarity, take action and believe in themselves, as they prepare for pregnancy, get pregnant and have babies.
