Bet You'd Never Think To Celebrate Your Period

You feel like you've been doing everything right. Exercise, food, early nights and timing the baby dance through your fertility window. You're two days late and you convince yourself that you're pregnant... then you get your period. You feel a black cloud descends, as you retreat from the world for a day or two to eat chocolate and binge on Netflix. The fertility diet goes out of the window. You question all the effort that you put in this month and rebel by doing the opposite for a couple of days.

I hear you and I remember what it was like when I wanted to get pregnant, I got my period and the hope disappeared in an instant... What if I told you there is a different way to see your period? And that you don't need to feel sad and depressed when you get your period? That getting your period doesn't have to send you off track and take you out for days. It sounds counterintuitive, but with the system that I teach, my clients actually get excited when they get their period.

Are you ready to learn that your period is a sign of your fertility? And that if you know how to monitor specific signs then you can measure your fertility. When you have this awareness about your period and how your fertility is changing it gives you the motivation to keep taking action to improve your fertility.

What Most Periods Are Like

If you have painful periods, with the kind of pain that you have to take painkillers for and snuggle up with a hot water bottle, then you're not alone. I remember when I used to be floored by the pain, I would literally drop to the floor holding my belly. It would take me out for days. I'd even have to cancel social plans and take days off work.

If you have painful, clotty periods, then this shows that your womb lining is not optimal for implantation. And if you experience PMS with sore breasts, headaches or bloating then this shows that your hormones are out of balance.

If this is you, then don't worry because there are steps you can take to change your hormones and womb lining. One of my clients went from a non-existent womb lining to getting a perfect structure with the right thickness in just a couple of months. She was having IVF and the sonographer who had seen her before almost fell off her chair when she what an improvement she'd made!

The reality is that most women have far from perfect periods and so we think that this is 'normal.' Some doctors don't even ask you about your period, but we know that your womb lining is an essential part of fertility.

Celebrate When You Get Your Period

One of the things about trying to conceive is that you're either pregnant or you're not. It feels like success or failure. Each month feels like a failure when you're measuring yourself against whether you're pregnant or not. Instead of putting so much pressure on yourself, measure the small wins on your path to pregnancy.

Track your period and note down what it's like and how it changes. This works really well alongside taking your temperature and tracking your Body Basal Temperature (BBT). This information will help you to understand your body better and see how your fertile signs change as you continue to improve your fertility.

My clients regularly email me with a subject header: Good News! I dive into the email to find out what the good news is about. Sometimes it's that they are pregnant and sometimes it's to share that they have just started their period with bright red blood and no brown spotting. When you celebrate every step of the way, it takes the pressure off and helps propel you forwards.

The Perfect Period

The most important thing to say about a Perfect Period is that it is something to aim for, but not to get hung up on getting it all perfect. Get an understanding of what perfect looks like, and then aim to get as close to it as possible, without beating yourself up.

A Perfect Period is a fertile period that shows the womb lining is optimised for implantation and pregnancy. It is where your period arrives and passes without discomfort, pain or changes in mood. The blood is bright red and fresh with no clots. It lasts for 4-5 days. And there is no spotting, which means it has a clear start and end.

The Perfect Period Checklist

Use the Perfect Period Checklist to measure your fertility each month:

  1. Womb lining of at least 8mm.

    1. Bleeding for 4-5 days.

    2. No pain and no clots

    3. Bright red blood.

    4. Clear start and end, with no spotting.

    5. No PMS, sore breasts or headaches.

    6. Stable mood.

    7. No breakouts of acne.

    8. Good energy.

    9. Healthy digestion.

    10. No cravings for sweet food.

    11. Undisturbed sleep.

So there you have it, the fertile signs to look out for next time you have your period and the mindset hack to keep you motivated and on track.
